Unlock Your True Potential at the Vermont FlyCasting School
There’s something about a perfectly executed fly cast that captures the imagination.
The smooth flow of line through the air. The graceful arc of the rod. The soft, delicate landing of the fly.
It’s a motion that feels more like poetry than sport — and it’s often the beauty of the cast itself that draws people to fly fishing in the first place.
But achieving that effortless, fluid cast takes more than inspiration. It takes practice, understanding, and a connection between body, mind, and water.
At the Vermont FlyCasting School, offered by Gibbs Guides, we believe that better fishing starts with better casting. And better casting isn’t just something you hope for — it’s something you can learn.
Practice Makes Perfect — Just Ask a Golfer
In golf, nobody expects to hit a 300-yard drive straight down the fairway the first time they pick up a club. Golfers practice. They hit the range. They take lessons. They review video footage of their swing.
Yet in fly fishing, most anglers never truly practice their casting. They simply grab a rod, step into the water, and hope for the best. It’s no surprise that many anglers struggle with distance, accuracy, and control — three pillars of successful fishing.
Legendary fly caster Lefty Kreh once said, “Fly casting is not about strength, it’s about technique.”
And like golf, fly casting is a skill that improves dramatically with the right instruction and deliberate practice.
Introducing 360-Degree, Drone, and Spatial Video Analysis for Fly Casting
At the Vermont FlyCasting School, we bring a new level of precision to casting instruction by combining 360-degree filming, drone footage, and Apple Spatial Video technology.
Led by experienced guide and instructor TJ Dezotell of Gibbs Guides, our program uses multiple advanced video angles to record your casting motion — side views, overhead shots, and immersive perspectives. You’ll experience your cast from every angle and see what needs adjustment in a clear, understandable way.
Orvis instructor Pete Kutzer said it best: “Video doesn’t lie. When you see your cast from the side or overhead, everything becomes clear.”
Each participant receives a personalized film of their cast and a custom practice plan to take home — ensuring the learning doesn’t stop when the session ends.
Why Focus on Casting?
Some anglers think fly casting is just about distance. But in truth, a good cast impacts every part of your experience on the water:
• Accuracy — Present your fly exactly where you want it, even in tricky currents or tight pockets.
• Distance — Reach far targets without losing control or tiring yourself out.
• Line Control — Mend and manipulate your line for perfect drift and natural presentations.
• Safety — Good casting lets you wade more carefully and stay balanced, especially in swift water.
Master caster Dave Whitlock once said, “Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.”
At the Vermont FlyCasting School, we show you exactly what perfect practice looks like.
